General: Ribbon Snakes (Thamnophis sauritus) are long, thin snakes with a yellow stripe down the center of the back and yellow stripes on each side, resembling the closely related Garter Snakes. In Peninsula Ribbon Snakes (Thamnophis sauritus sackenii), the yellow dorsal stripe is faded, more tan than yellow, and there is a white spot ahead of the eye.
Taxonomy: Colubrid (Non-venomous) Snakes Family (Colubridae).
Diet: Frogs, tadpoles, fish, bugs, small mice.
Habitat: Wide habitat preference from humid forests to dry prairies.
