Diet: Omnivorous. Feeds on invertebrates, detritus, and algae in the water column and on the bottom.
Preferred Habitat: Shallow desert and upland streams with flowing pools and a sandy, gravelly, or rocky bottom in tributaries to the Colorado River of Arizona and New Mexico (primarily the Gila and Bill Williams river systems), and Pacific drainages of western Mexico. Also found in the Hassayampa River.
Where to Find: Don't look for Longfin Dace around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in streams in central and southern Arizona or down in Mexico. |
