General Description: Vaux's Swifts (Chaetura vauxi) are small, all-gray, cigar-shaped birds with long, narrow, pointed wings. Vaux's Swifts are dark gray overall except for the light-gray throat and breast. Vaux's Swifts are uncommon around Las Vegas; White-throated Swifts are the common species here.

Favored Habitat: The open air: these birds feed on the wing as they migrate through.
Where to Find: Vaux's Swifts are uncommon in the Las Vegas area. They migrate through the western deserts to breed in the northern mountains and only occasionally are seen during their journeys. |
