General Description: White-winged Doves (Zenaida asiatica) are sexually monomorphic doves of the southern Nevada deserts. White-wings are about the size (actually a tad larger) and shape of a Mourning Dove, but with a large white wing patch that shows in flight. At rest, the wing patch appears to be a white bar on the leading edge of the folded wing. White-wing Doves have a square tail with a broad white band across the tip that shows when the bird is in flight.
Taxonomy: Columbiformes, Columbidae.
Favored Habitat: Deserts, riparian areas, and towns in the Sonoran Desert and points south. In recent years, venturing into the Mojave Desert. |
