General: Narrowleaf Cottonwood (Populus angustifolia) is a tree that produces catkins, putting it in the Willow family. The leaves are glabrous (lack hairs), lanceolate, about 2-4 inches long, have an acute tip, and the margins are finely scalloped.
Narrowleaf Cottonwood is a rare component of vegetation communities on moist soils in the mountains in the Transition (Yellow Pine Forest) and Canadian (Pine-Fir Forest) life zones.
Around Las Vegas, look for Narrowleaf Cottonwood in the Sheep Range and on Mt. Charleston.
