Desert Lavender (Hyptis emoryi)

General: Desert Lavender (Hyptis emoryi) is a tall, upright shrub with woolly stems and leaves. The leaves are sessile and triangular, with notched margins. The flowers occur in falls, each flower being blue with long stamens.

Desert Lavender is a fairly common component of vegetation communities in dry, well-drained sandy and gravelly soils in desert washes and lower bajadas in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub) and Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub) life zones.

Around Las Vegas, look for Desert Lavender in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Laughlin, in the Mojave National Preserve, and places south.
