General: Devil's Claw (Proboscidea althaeifolia) is a perennial forb with unusually large, shiny green leaves that looks like it belongs in a well-watered garden. The leaves and stems are glandular hairy. The flowers are bright yellow to orange, and the fruit is a long horn that splits down the middle to release the seeds, forming the characteristic "devil's claw."

Devil's Claw is an uncommon component of vegetation communities in dry, well-drained sandy and gravelly soils on desert flats into the lower bajadas in the Lower Sonoran (Creosote-Bursage Flats) life zone. Around Las Vegas, look for Devil's Claw down in southern California and in southern Arizona.
