General: Minthorn's Milkvetch (Astragalus minthorniae) is a low-growing perennial forb with compound leaves, pea-type flowers, and straight seed pods. The leaves are reddish (but not always), and the seedpods are short-hairy.
Minthorn's Milkvetch is an uncommon component of vegetation communities in dry, well-drained gravelly areas on bajadas into the lower mountains in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub and Pinyon-Juniper Woodland), Transition (Yellow Pine Forest), and Canadian (Pine-Fir Forest) life zones.
Around Las Vegas, look for Minthorn's Milkvetch at middle and higher elevations in Red Rock Canyon NCA and up on Mt. Charleston.
