Oak Creek Canyon Trail at Knoll-Escarpment Trail junction (view E) |
Overview
The Oak Creek Canyon Trail is a delightful hike that leads into one of the narrow canyons that slices into the Red Rocks (Wilson) Cliffs. This hike has two parts: (1) an official trail and (2) a scramble up the canyon. The official trail makes for a good, easy hike that leads to an overlook at the mouth of the canyon in about 1.1 miles with an elevation gain of less than 300 ft.
For the return, watch carefully for the old Oak Creek Middle trail junction and the new Oak Creek Middle trail junction. These junctions are unmarked and have been a source of confusion for hikers - especially at night. Stay left on the Oak Creek Canyon Trail. The rocks at the trail junction seem to be aligned differently each time I've been there.
Presented here are photos of the return from the Knoll-Escarpment Trail junction to Oak Creek Road Trailhead. For a detailed description of the route, including directions, maps, GPS coordinates, and photos, see Oak Creek Canyon. |
