Restoring the Hidden Forest Cabin (roof and exterior) Hiking Around Las Vegas, Desert National Wildlife Refuge |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
In 2008 and 2009, volunteers working with the USFWS restored the historic Hidden Forest cabin, an historic site where once game wardens lived in the mountains guarding against poachers. Today, backpackers enjoy the cool pines and convenient cabin while birds sing in the trees and chipmunks scamper about. Ken Amundsen, an avid Las Vegas hiker and frequent visitor to Hidden Forest, recognized that the cabin was in danger of collapsing. Ken sounded the alarm and spearheaded the effort to restore the cabin. Thanks to Ken, Shin Goto, and everyone who worked on the restoration! All restoration photos © 2010 Ken Amundsen |
